IESE has been awarded the prestigious international ‘STARS Gold’ seal by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). This certification highlights IESE's ongoing commitment to sustainability in all areas, from educational content to school operations, an approach that has been consistent with our mission for more than half a century.
The STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) seal measures and compares the sustainability performance of universities and business schools. It assesses five areas: Academics, Planning and Management, Innovation and Leadership, Operations and Engagement.
With this distinction, IESE and all its campuses join the select group of academic institutions that have achieved STARS Gold status in the world, being the first Spanish institution to do so and one of the top three in Europe.
Specifically, IESE has scored highly in the sections of academic content and innovation and leadership. Academic achievements include the creation of the Institute for Sustainable Leadership; the integration of sustainability subjects in different programs, such as the optional specialization offered by the MBA or the ESG-focused program.
In the section on innovation in sustainability, the certifiers have considered the work being carried out by the Institute for Sustainable Leadership and the large number of publications in leading international scientific journals.
The STARS Gold seal is in addition to other certifications linked to sustainability that IESE has won, such as LEED Gold, which accredits the high environmental standards of the Madrid campus building, or the Calculo+Reduzco seal, from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) on control of the school's carbon footprint.
