The IESE Alumni Association has appointed Maria Díaz-Morera (MBA-06) as its new president, replacing Alejandro Beltrán (MBA-98), who has held the position since 2018. Díaz-Morera has been a member of IESE's Global Alumni Executive Committee since 2019.
Maria Díaz-Morera is a board member of wealth and asset management firm EDM with offices in Spain and Latin America. She joined EDM in 2011 to lead the firm's expansion in Latin America from Mexico. Maria holds a degree in Economics from Pompeu Fabra University and an MBA from IESE and she began her professional career in the financial services sector at Goldman Sachs in London. She later developed her experience in various sectors, such as in biotechnology at Amgen and in strategic consulting at The Boston Consulting Group. In 2011, she joined EDM, one of the most important wealth and asset management firms in Spain, as director of the Latin America business and later as head of the wealth management team. She is currently partner and board member of the firm.
IESE Dean Franz Heukamp thanked Alejandro Beltrán for his years of dedication to the Alumni Association and welcomed the new president: "I am pleased to welcome Maria Díaz-Morera, whose experience and commitment to IESE will encourage us to take new steps forward. With her help and experience, we will continue to boost the opportunities for continuous learning, networking and collaboration in the Alumni Association."
The election of the new president was held at the annual meeting of the Alumni Association’s Governing Board on March 20 at IESE’s Barcelona and Madrid campuses and online simultaneously. The event brought together the presidents and vice presidents from around the world, as well as representatives of the regional chapters. The IESE Alumni Association currently includes more than 57,000 professionals representing 154 nationalities spread across more than 40 chapters.
During the event, the 2023 Research Excellence Awards were also presented to IESE professors who have excelled in research. This year’s awardees were: Miguel Antón and Mireia Giné for the paper "Common ownership, competition and top management incentives"; Jordi Canals for the book Board of Directors in Disruptive Times; and Yih-teen Lee for the case study "Netflix: leading with a unique corporate culture".
Finally, the Alumni Association's annual report was presented together with the milestones of the past year, including the funding of 1 million euros for scholarships for MBA and Master in Management students.
