Luis Manuel Calleja, a senior lecturer in IESE’s Strategic Management Department, has passed away. He was 72 years old.
“People with big and magnanimous hearts always occupy an enormous space in the lives of those closest to them. Luisma Calleja was a person with a big heart,” said professor and former dean Jordi Canals. “As a professor at IESE and at the other academic institutions where he collaborated, he was motivated by a clear vocation to serve others.”
Calleja was born in Asturias in 1947 and held a BSc in Physical Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and an Executive MBA from IESE (1985). He became a lecturer at IESE in 2006.
He held executive positions in companies in sectors from finance to industry to professional services. As a consultant, he carried out strategic plans for banks and insurance companies in Europe and the US, as well as for public-sector organizations.
In the academic world, he collaborated with numerous universities and business schools, including Universidad de Montevideo’s IEEM, AESE in Lisbon and ISEM in Madrid, among many others, offering training to executives and political leaders. He was co-author of various books, cases, technical notes and other publications.
He was married and had five children, including Ricardo Calleja, also a professor at IESE.
