Michael F. Keppel is a Partner and Managing Director of AlixPartners. He was a partner of the restructuring boutique THM Partners LLP, London which was merged into AlixPartners. Before joining THM he was an independent senior restructuring executive with his own company Keppel Managementpartners GmbH, Frankfurt. He works in crisis management since 1992. Michael studied business administration in Freiburg und in Cologne. He holds a master in business administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) (1991) and a ph.D (Dr. rer.pol) (1996) both from the university of Cologne. He attended the AMP program at IESE Business School in 2011. He has hold lectures in crisis management in the 2nd class MBA at IESE since 2012 and was appointed as Lecturer in 2018. He is also an adjunct professor in the School of Church Program of the Vatican teaching Crisis Management to priests. He is author of various articles about Crisis Management and Leadership in Crisis.
In his professional life he takes over executive roles as Chief Restructuring Officer, Chairman of Supervisory Board, Active Chairman and Trustee in restructuring projects in insolvencies and in out-of-court-situations. He is a founder and Managing Partner of Keppel Managementpartners GmbH, Frankfurt/ Germany. Prior to his self-employment Michael worked as a Partner and Managing Director AlixPartner and Alvarez & Marsal and as a senior principal with Droege & Comp in the restructuring unit. Prior to this he was a partner of Keppel-Group, his own family business in media retail and wholesale. He started his career with KPMG where he was manager of the corporate recovery unit and member of the center of competence.
He was a Chief Restructuring Officer of the beauty and luxury retail chain Douglas GmbH, Duesseldorf/ Germany until July 2021 responsible for a EUR 100m EBITDA improvement program and a refinancing of EUR 2.5 bn of debt. He is a member of the supervisory board of Semper Idem Underberg AG, Rheinberg/ Germany. His past cases were Pfleiderer Group S.A., Atlantik, S.A., Eisenmann SE, Kathrein SE, IVG AG, TEMMELR-Group, PHOENIX Pharmahandel GmbH, drugstore chain Ihr Platz GmbH & Co KG and SecurLog GmbH.
He is married and father of 4 children.
