Mauricio Prieto is a founding partner at Travel Tech Essentialist, providing consulting and advisory services to investors (VCs, Private Equity, Hedge Funds…) and operators (from startups to public companies) in the travel, technology and media ecosystems. He is also in the planning phases of launching a blockchain fund of funds. Previously, he co-founded eDreams in 1999, where he was CMO and board member until 2015. By the time of eDreams Odigeo’s IPO in 2014 (at an enterprise value of around $1.5 billion), eDreams had become the largest publicly traded eCommerce company in Europe and the third largest online travel agency in the world.
Mauricio is also a founding member of Tech Barcelona and is on the board of directors of companies such as Wakanow (largest OTA in Africa), The Hotels Network (one of the fastest growing SaaS startups in hotel tech), and Plazah (personal commerce marketplace). In addition, he is an entrepreneur mentor and advisor at Plug and Play Tech Center (Silicon Valley’s largest innovation platform) and Revolution (VC investing in new hubs).
Born and raised in Mexico, Mr. Prieto graduated from Princeton University and has an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. He has also worked in product development at Charles Schwab in San Francisco and Miami and as a consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton in Mexico City.
