Carlos has a long experience at the forefront of the telecom industry, where he has played a diversity of roles as a strategist, including the position of Director of Corporate Strategy at Telefonica SA, where he was directly involved in many strategic decisions involving technology and played a leading role in the elaboration of the company’s strategic plans, with special focus on new technology-related businesses and investments. After Telefonica, he moved to GSMA in London, where he was Head of Industry Strategy, and then to Meta (Facebook), also based in London, where he helped the company define its strategy in the connectivity ecosystem (including telecom operators and technology providers).
Before that, he worked as researcher at the R&D Labs of Telefonica (TI+D) where he developed mathematical models and simulation tools for network dimensioning and performance evaluation. Previously, he had started his career as a researcher in theoretical physics at the Spanish Research Council (CSIC).
Carlos is currently based in Madrid and combines his work as an independent strategic consultant, mostly focused on the telecom industry, with his academic roles at IESE and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
Carlos holds an M.Sc. in Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and an Executive MBA from IESE.
