Coaching for Diversity and Belonging
8th Executive Coaching SymposiumApril 26, 2024
The 8th edition of IESE’s Executive Coaching Symposium, organized by the Executive Coaching Unit, will explore Diversity and Belonging.
Leadership and teams alike require integrating different mindsets, frameworks, and behaviors into harmony. Nevertheless, attempts tend to stop at a superficial cognitive adaptation, easily frustrated by new or strong differences. The coaching process and philosophy can shed light on how to move beyond this roadblock, both as a coach and as an executive, including:
- How to live with a diverse mindset in a compassionate process for understanding others and being understood.
- Dealing with diversity through dynamic balancing abilities that generate value and achieve more cohesive teams.
- Fostering belonging by properly defining purpose and a comprehensive cultural integration (cognitive, emotional, and behavioral).
The Executive Coaching Symposium at IESE is an opportunity for you to share insights that can shape the future of executive coaching and inspire high-profile executives. We would be delighted for you to join other speakers, special guests, and business leaders in providing the expertise and experiences that enrich the conversation and make a meaningful difference.

Topic 1. Under 30 and above 55: coaching the generational gap.
Workshop facilitator: Mr. Lars Maydell
Summary: In the ground-breaking book "The 100-Year Life" by Lynda Gratton and Andrew Scott, we are clearly shown that today's working world is creating new career paths. Experimenting until the age of 35 and starting a portfolio career at the age of 65 are just two examples of a change in life planning. Age diversity is a key factor in People & Culture. However, we still find few high-potential candidates on management boards, and older employees feel the declining interest in the job market from their mid-50s onwards. How can career transition coaches best support employability for all age groups with differing career paths? We will talk about this in various facets.
Topic 2. "Psychological Safety for Differences and Disagreement"
Workshop facilitator: Mrs. Aline Badr & Mr. Stephen Stynes
Summary: Designed to make the invisible visible, this workshop explores the dynamics of psychological safety within diverse teams, including barriers that hinder inclusion and belonging. Through interactive exercises and open discussions that foster communication, participants will gain clarity and learn actionable skills for effective dialogue and for creating safe working environments that foster creativity and high performance.
Topic 3. "Working Remotely vs Working in the Office"
Workshop facilitator: Mrs. Maite Piera
Summary: The objective of this workshop is to reflect on the hybrid working model (having “remote” and “office” days), considering the pros and cons versus the traditional “office” way of working. Are we maximizing the hybrid options to their full potential? This will be one of the questions that we will answer during the workshop.
