Johannes Müller-Trede is Associate Professor of Managerial Decision Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, and an MA (Mod) in Management Science and Information System Studies from Trinity College, Dublin. Before joining IESE, he spent several years as a post-doctoral researcher at UC San Diego's Rady School of Management.
At IESE, Johannes teaches courses on Business Analytics, Decision Analysis, and Visual Analytics in the MBA and the Executive MBA, in executive education programs such as the Program for Management Development and the Programa de Desarollo Directivo (in Spanish), as well as in specialized programs for clients and partners such as Tetrapak, Riyadh Bank, or the Timoney Leadership Institute.
Johannes' research focuses on behavioral decision theory. He is particularly interested in two related questions that keep resurfacing in his research and teaching. The first is how we learn from data, and how we then translate our learning to decisions. The second is why we often appear to be inconsistent in our decisions, and what these inconsistencies tell us about our psychology, our rationality, and our systems of values and beliefs. Johannes' research has been published in leading management and psychology journals such as Management Science, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, and Psychological Science.
