Albert Fernández is a professor in IESE's Accounting and Control Department and Entrepreneurship Department. He also teaches courses on the analysis of business problems and the management of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He is the Creand Entrepreneurship and Banking Chair.
Since 2009, he has been the director of Finaves, the venture capital platform that invests in IESE alumni projects. He has been an academic director of IESE's Programa de Desarrollo Directivo (PDD) since 2016. He has been the director of the Accounting and Control Department since September 2018. Previously, he occupied various management posts within the MBA program.
Fernández is the academic director of a program for executives of micro-businesses. For more than 10 years, he was the academic director of focused programs on strategy implementation and accounting and finance for non-financial executives. Additionally, he was academic director of a program for social entrepreneurs and of numerous custom programs.
He has taught classes in leading universities in the U.S. (Harvard, Boston University), Latin America (INALDE, Colombia; IAE, Argentina; PAD, Peru; ISE, Brazil; among others). Since 2017 he has served on the board of advisors for Colombia's INALDE business school.
His areas of interest are entrepreneurship, with a particular focus on early stages; the keys to growth for SMEs; corporate governance with a focus on SMEs and family businesses; and the use of management processes such as planning, budgeting, evaluation and compensation.
He has extensive experience in consulting and has served and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of several companies. He has been president of the Corporació de Salut of Maresme i la Selva from 2012 to 2019.
He is the author of various cases, technical notes, and articles for journals and other publications.
