Giovanni Valentini is professor of Strategic Management and Director of the PhD Program at IESE Business School, where he also earned his PhD. Prior to joining IESE, he was an Associate Professor at Bocconi University, Milan. He has held visiting positions at Harvard University, University of Toronto, KU Leuven, LUISS University, and SKEMA Business School.
Most of his research has examined how firms can gain competitive advantage through technological innovation and growth. His research has been published in several academic journals, including Global Strategy Journal, Industrial and Corporate Change, Journal of International Business Studies, Long range Planning, Management Science, Organization Science, Research Policy, Strategic Organization, and Strategic Management Journal.
Currently, he is the Chair of the Knowledge & Innovation IG of the Strategic Management Society and he serves as Co-Editor of Industrial and Corporate Change and Associate Editor of Management Science.
At IESE, he has been teaching Competitive Strategy and Corporate Strategy courses in the MBA, EMBA and in Executive Education programs, as well as Strategy modules for Custom Programs for companies like Danone, Erste Bank, Faurecia, Ferrero, Hanon Systems, Henkel, IDOM, Nissan, Puig, and Schneider Electric.
