I-WIL - International Conference of Women and Leadership
“Women and (new) leadership”
Barcelona, July 4-5, 2017
Call for Papers
Dear friends and colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to invite you to the I-WIL - International Conference of Women and Leadership. The Conference will take place in Barcelona, Spain and it is organized by IESE Women in Leadership .
The aim of this conference is to create a vision and to build theory on women and leadership, as well as to provide empirical evidence not only for the academia, but also for organizations. We are also interested in papers on a wide range of topics that address current problems and key issues about women in the organizations. The IESE Women in Leadership founded its first Academic Forum in 2005 the International Conference of Work and Family, and in 2017 the conference reaches its 7th edition. The 7th Work and Family academic conference will take place right before the I-WIL - International Conference of Women and Leadership, such that participants interested in both can actually attend the two of them.
Gender equality is a fundamental right (Eurobarometer, 2015), yet still in many regions of the world reducing gender inequality is still a challenge extremely necessary for having a more humane society. In many countries inequalities between men are women are still the norm (see Gender Inequality Index of the United Nations for a reference). Inequalities between men and women are still prevalent in organizations in political representation, in academia, and in the family. The I-WIL International Conference of Women and Leadership aims to focus on “Women and (new) leadership” acknowledging that the needs for leadership have changed, and that women contributions might be more relevant than ever to contribute to organizational needs.
The I-WIL International Conference of Women and Leadership will pay special attention to women and leadership styles and stereotypes, women and careers, women and corporate governance and women and social networks, among others. Interesting questions that we would like to examine are: Who holds stereotypes of men and women? How do those affect men and women career progression? Do men and women cope with leadership challenges differently? Under what circumstances are those strategies likely to be more effective? Are men and women leadership stiles different? Is it beneficial to have a higher representation of women in Boards, and if so why?
The Conference will take place in July 4th and 5th at IESE Campus in Barcelona. Proposals for the different options should be submitted through the electronic system available in this site.
If you are interested in participating, please submit a 800 word short-paper by March 1, 2017. Acceptance notification will be communicated by April 1, 2017. Submission of full-papers will be due by May 15, 2017. We especially encourage theoretical and innovative empirical papers, as well as quantitative and qualitative analyses.
We will also select the best single or first-authored original paper among PhD candidates and young scholars (within five years of receiving their doctoral degree). The first author of the selected paper will receive a travel award that can be used to defer most of the flight and conference fee. All participating PhD students will receive a special discount on the conference fee.
IESE is a dynamic community of scholars and practitioners that will welcome you to Barcelona, a traditional and welcoming Mediterranean city. It is a privileged city, with a great number of tourist attractions and a friendly atmosphere that will offer conference participants and their families plenty of opportunities to enjoy their stay here over and above the academic program we are preparing for you.
We are looking forward to welcoming you at IESE, in Barcelona!
